Attendance, on-track handle and total all-sources handle continue to top 2006 figures through Week 5 of racing at Saratoga Race Course. Attendance is up 6.0 percent, on-track handle rose 7.5 percent, and total all-sources handle increased 6.1 percent over 2006 figures. Total attendance through Week 5 of the 2007 meet is 809,471, up from 763,133 in 2006. On-track handle increased to $104,891,565 from $97,604,949 in 2006. Total all-sources handle rose to $479,567,195 from $451,840,546 in 2006. Through Week 5, there have been 288 races run at Saratoga, compared to 278 in 2006 (when one racing day was canceled because of extreme heat). Betting interests are up to 2,463 from 2,311 in 2006, a 6.6 percent increase. Attendance figures for Giveaway Days include patrons who pay multiple admissions to obtain more than one giveaway item, either at the track entrance or at the multiple admissions area inside the track. “The Saratoga 2007 season continued its strong performance through Week 5,” said New York Racing Association President and CEO Charles Hayward. “Hot weather on Travers Day had a negative impact on on-track handle and attendance. All-sources Travers Day handle of $36,749,572, however, was the third highest Travers handle in history. We look forward to finishing the meet with a bang with a Sunset Friday card and a stakes-studded Labor Day weekend.” The New York Racing Association Inc. (NYRA) is a private, non-profit racing association established in 1955, which owns and operates the three largest racetracks in New York - Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga. It is a non-profit, non-dividend paying corporation governed by a Board of Trustees, whose members, by law, receive no compensation or dividends. Since its inception, NYRA has contributed more than $3 billion in direct tax revenue to the State of New York. |
