The TOBOGGAN Handicap was called the Toboggan Slide prior to 1896, when it was run on the downhill course at Morris Park in the Bronx.

Not run in 1891, 1895, 1911, and 1912. Run at three quarters of a mile over the old straight course prior to 1942; on the Widener Course from 1928 to 1940, inclusive, and from 1942 to 1958, inclusive; on the main course from 1922 to 1927, inclusive, and in 1941. Run at six furlongs from 1890 to 1993. Run at Belmont Park from 1867 to 1961. In 1961, Chief of Chiefs finished first, but was disqualified and placed out of the money.
