Derived from the French language, the term “DEMOISELLE” refers to a young female, particularly one of gentle or noble birth.
The DEMOISELLE was run at Empire City in 1908, 1910, 1914, and from 1917 to 1942; at Belmont Park in 1915, 1916, and 1958; at Jamaica from 1943 to 1953. Not run in 1909, 191l, 1912, 1913, 1933, 1934, 1935, from 1954 to 1957, and from 1960 to 1962. Distance of five and a half furlongs prior to 1936; five and three-quarter furlongs from 1936 to 1942; six furlongs from 1943 to 1947; seven furlongs in 1958 and 1959; a mile and a sixteenth from 1948 to 1953; and one mile from 1963 to 1974.
In 1998, Tutorial finished first, but was disqualified and placed fifth.
