The late ASHLEY T. COLE served as chairman of the New York State Racing Commission. He played a pivotal role in the formation of The New York Racing Association. Prior to 1984, this race was restricted to two year olds. Run at Aqueduct from 1976 to 1992. Run at six furlongs in 1976 and 1977; at seven furlongs from 1978 to 1981; at one mile in 1982, from 1985 to 1988, and from 1994 to 1999; at one mile and seventy yards in 1984; at one mile and one sixteenth from 1989 to 1993. In 2000, the distance was changed to a mile and an eighth. Run on the main track prior to 1989.
